The funds raised by Ovarian Cycle promote cutting-edge scientific research that targets early detection and diagnosis of ovarian cancer.  As our primary national charity partner, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund receives a portion of proceeds from each Ovarian Cycle event held across the country. And, we also support a select local ovarian cancer charity in the areas where our events take place. Below is a list of the current research institutions we support.

Ovarian Cancer Research Fund
Ovarian Cancer Research FundFounded in 1994, OCRF is the largest private nonprofit organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to funding ovarian cancer research. OCRF has awarded more than $45 million in ovarian cancer research through grants to the brightest women and men in the field today at over 62 leading medical centers across the country. Using the latest technologies, these investigators are breaking new ground though the discoveries of new treatment modalities, genetic markers, and diagnostic tools. Together, these researchers have achieved remarkable results and have received unparalleled training opportunities that will greatly impact the field of ovarian cancer research as a whole.

In 2011 Ovarian Cycle's donations to OCRF were directed to two OCRF-funded research projects:
* $100,000 to the project "Identifying Early Events in Ovarian Cancer Using a 3-D Model of Ovarian Tissues," led by Joanna Burdette, PhD at the University of Illinois, Chicago

* $25,000 to the project "Finding a Market to Detect Early Stage Ovarian Cancer," led by Sharmistha Sarkar, PhD at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston

 Ovarian Cancer Institute
Ovarian Cancer InstituteFounded in Atlanta, Georgia in 1999, OCI is a not for profit research organization affiliated with Georgia Institute of Technology. The mission of the Institute is to conduct research leading to early detection and more effective treatment of ovarian cancer. Comprising a statewide team of researchers and bioinformaticists, OCI is engaged in developing an accurate and specific, non-invasive diagnostic blood test for cancer of the ovary, researching its molecular basis and developing more effective therapies. Funded in part by the Georgia Cancer Coalition, OCI will soon have the largest bank of ovarian tissue and serum samples in the world.

The Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer Foundation
The Norma Livingston Ovarian Cancer FoundationThe foundation was started in January, 2004 in Birmingham, Alabama. It was founded by Lori J. Livingston who lost her mother, Norma on October 29, 1992 after a short battle with Ovarian Cancer.

NLOCF has supported the work of the University of Alabama Gyn/Oncology Group headed by Dr. Ronnie Alvarez. This is an incredible group that is aggressively involved in early detection and prevention of Ovarian Cancer.

The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research
Since its inception in 1996, The Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research has been a principle catalyst for national and international research efforts aimed at finding solutions to ovarian cancer. One the Center’s cornerstone efforts in early detection and prevention is the Ovarian Cancer Early Detection Program which has served as a model of other screening programs across the nation serving women determined at high risk for ovarian cancer. The program provides women with genetic counseling, CA-125 blood tests and annual ultrasounds. Participation in the program is free and is funded by the Rivkin Center with philanthropic support from the community. The program also provides information and resources to assist researchers nationwide in finding additional blood markers that might further increase the accuracy of the CA-125 blood test in diagnosing ovarian cancer at its earliest stages.

 The Clearity Foundation
The Clearity Foundation is the only foundation in America dedicated to improving therapeutic options for women with ovarian cancer now. We believe we are the first organization making personalized medicine a reality for women with this disease. We do this using molecular profiling technology to analyze a patient’s tumor coupled with Clearity’s Diane Barton Database to determine which drugs are most likely to be effective. By improving the information used in making treatment decisions, our goal is for women with ovarian cancer to live longer, healthier lives. More information at www.clearityfoundation.org.

Florida Gynecologic Oncology Center
Researchers at Florida Hospital Cancer Institute Gynecologic Oncology Laboratory are conducting non-coding and micro RNA molecular screening for potential biomarkers of ovarian cancer risk. Their principle investigators include: Susan Blaydes-Ingersoll, PhD; Sally A. Litherland, PhD, Jeffrey A. James, DO, Sarfraz Ahmad, PhD, Robert W. Holloway, MD, David A. Decker, MD
