In Memory of MiMi :)

Five years... that is how long it has been since I've heard my mother whisper "I love you."

My mother was diagnosed on November 6, 2003 with EOPPC (extra ovarian primary peritoneal carcinoma). This is one of the rarest forms of Ovarian Cancer. You see, my mother had no ovaries; in fact she had a complete hysterectomy eight years prior to her diagnosis. She never thought she'd have to worry with this gynecological disease. My mother presented with all the typical signs and symptoms of Ovarian Cancer, but no one ever knew... why? well she had several other medical problems whose symptoms were essentially the same as Ovarian Cancer.

"stage 4" "stage 4" did the doctor just say "stage 4"? How could that be? We wondered, can she beat this? I was terrified; but her optimism and fight gave us all hope. She endured round after round after round of painful chemo, never once complaining. She went bi weekly to have blood work drawn praying each time that the numbers had come down, even just a little.

Eventually, the doctors ran out of options. My mothers condition worsened and other problems developed as a result of her abdominal cavity being filled with a massive tumor, the cancer was spreading and covering her intestines like icing on a cake. I remember Dr. Alvarez pulling me to the side and telling me she had weeks to live. I still get a lump in my throat, how can it be that there is nothing else they could do? Sadly, my mom passed but was healed of her disease on August 1, 2004.

I ride in memory of those who lost their battle and those still fighting the fight. Great strides have been made with the donations received over the last few years from this event. Please help me meet my goal of $1000. I may one day be fighting this same battle (since this is a hereditary disease). Thank you for your time and donation.
